About Modern Thrills

Nothing, absolutely nothing tips my little cork worse than promising something in print and then not delivering it. Numerous places on my wonderful website state that there is some information available about the previously published works of Mark Lax—and there is none. I know what happened, but that does not make it right.
The majority of the features on this website appeared in print elsewhere. In the case of Weird Detective Mystery Adventures, it was my ink and my expense. I don’t consider the project dead, but rather pretty much in its final state. I may do a blog entry giving its full back-story one of these days. As it is, it sort of explains itself. I am in no rush to print it up again.
Mr. Fun and the astrology section appeared in a newspaper. As for the stories, Fashion Crimes of The Hyper-Casual, The Victory Lap and Man and The Moon Maid, all of them appeared in short fiction magazines in the late 1980s through the mid 1990s. I had other stories published at the time, but I just don’t know where they are. In any case, the FNASR thing is up and here they are in the form in which I intended them. No slam to the editors intended. I only have the computer files and not the publication galleys.
The Literary Life, which appears in the Fast Fiction section of Escape Central is in extensively altered form. I know this because my notes say this. I no longer have the publication copy, so I am not entirely sure what pissed me off. Again, no slam to the editor is intended.
In any case, if it sounds like I am senile or that a dog ate my homework it is only because this is as close to the truth as I am willing to admit. I used to believe that the truth would set you free. I am no longer that foolish.
