Let us all pre-suffer:
Act not only as if the worst
Is Going To Happen,
But already has.
Let us shuffle from
Place to Place
Pretending our fates
Are dependant on the
Glint of some
Commissar’s monocle.
Let us spend meagerly
Full knowing that what
We send away
Will never return
Let us squirrel away
Our excess in gold
Like the misers of old.
And this would change our behavior how?
