BRIC Envy Makes Post Dippy Wordy

You can have too much of a good thing. The sport of Kings is BRIC Envy: a preoccupation by media and money types that our entire Western World will somehow slip away because a billion Chinamen and Indians are on the verge of making 4,000.00 per year. When they say flat world economy or global this or global that, I say "You cannot compete with poverty unless you are also poor." In short, you can only get so rich trading in cheap labor. Eventually that labor is no longer so cheap and then the magic smoke goes out of your tremendous growth export economy and heads for someplace poorer than you. Real, sustained wealth depends on other things.

But don't tell that to the Washington Post, ex-sibling of Hil-Gle whipping boy Newsweek. Sometimes the effort to phrase China's rise as our decline taxes the brain and produces such verbal dipsomania as...

Yet there is little disputing that under the direction of the Communist Party, China has begun to reshape the way the global economy functions by virtue of its growing dominance of trade, its huge hoard of foreign exchange reserves and United States government debt and its voracious appetite for oil, coal, iron ore and other natural resources.
Washington Post

We got mud, poor people and no resources whatsoever! Fear us! Our most valuable capital good is the credit we have extended our own customers! Quake ye heathen! And just to hamstring us further, we have Communists leading the show!

I am old enough to remember when the Japanese were going to take us over. That didn't happen. This won't, either.

Other Notes

I am very happy to have this blog reflected in other places. At times I have even been proud of this. Wow, how oddly influential and widespread these musings of mine can be. And then I am reminded of what the internet really is, as I was this morning when I found my previous post reflected on a site dedicated to auto care stores in El Paso. Sigh.

We will have the promised Ballyhoo piece posted in the blog fairly soon!

(Hil-Gle means 'we' in the purely fictional sense that a person writing using an object as a personal noun normally means it: as a way of avoiding personal accountability.)
